COPYRIGHTING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS

Your photographs are your creations – protect your creativity – Copyright your images.

You can subscribe to Digimarc Digital Copyrights or use this simple method outlined below:

Creating the visual layer

Use a word processor to type in the text below.

  1. Change the text on the next line for your name (you can change the size of the text based on the size of your image) (The Copyright symbol for windows users is available in the character map “Start> Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map” )

© 2006 YOUR NAME. All rights reserved

  2. Copy the entire line by highlighting it and pressing control C

  3. Open photo shop and bring up any photograph

  4. Create a new text layer

  5. Paste the line you copied – control V

  6. Move the text to where you want it

  7. Next right click on the layer and rasterize the text

  8. Next apply the emboss filter

  9. Change the blend mode to Hard Light

  10. Now apply a 40% Opacity

Creating the Embeded Layer

Now you need to embed the copyright into your file

  1. Go to file menu and choose the “file info” dialog
  2. Change the copyright status to Copyrighted
  3. In the window below use control V to paste the copyright symbol and line from point 1 above
  4. You can also enter your web site URL so when somebody looks at your file info they can click on the Go to URL button and they will be taken to your site
  5. Click Ok and the info is embedded into your image.
  6. A copy right symbol will be added before your file name (see top bar of the image)
  7. Now flatten your image and save it as TIFF, JPEG, EPS, PDF and PSD only.
  8. Copyright embedding is not supported in other file formats except on a Macintosh.
  9. If you want, you can create actions to repeat this process or create custom brushes – your choice.
